Verification of Income Information for Tax Filers
Recently, the Department of Education offered relief for students and financial aid offices while the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) in the FAFSA is not available. The DRT is not expected to be returned to service until October 1, 2017.
In the interim, we may now accept signed copies of 2015 taxpayer 1040 federal income tax forms as an acceptable document for income tax verification. Please note if the taxpayer filed either the 1040 or the 1040A that both pages 1 and 2 are required.
Please note that the checklist for income verification on your Online Center “To-Do” list now includes this additional option in the description.
If you do not have a copy of the federal tax return, you may request a tax transcript from the IRS.
Tax filers can request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS, free of charge, in one of three ways.
