Industrial Sewing 

Become a Certified Sewing Machine Operator in only 8 weeks! Explore the growing opportunities for employment in the sewn product industry today! The next training class begins August 16, 2016 so don’t delay. Registration is required.

This workforce training sets you up to obtain full time employment in the sewn product industry. Certified Industrial Sewer are going through this program have been getting multiple job offers. From cottage industries to 3rd generation owned furniture producers, sewers are in high demand!

You hear it every night on the news, our future workers are not getting the education real businesses need. This is about to change.

Through the Michigan Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing grant, eight Michigan community colleges are working together to build capacity to meet the needs of manufacturing employers for today and their future workforce.*

But we need your help! In order to prepare future employee for future jobs, we are looking your input on areas including curriculum, internships, job shadowing and company site visits.

Our goal is to expansion of the workforce pipeline with employer-driven student recruitment into manufacturing.

Four Main Curriculum Areas

  • Welding
  • Machinist – CNC
  • Multi-Skilled Technician (Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance)
  • Manufacturing Production & Assembly

MCAM provides

  • In-take assessments (National Career Readiness Certificate, ACT Talent & Fit Assessment)
  • Student career plan development
  • Expanded career coaching
  • Expanded career preparation courses (resumes, interviews, on-line applications).
  • Build placement activities at colleges.

 

The grant is funded through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant - U.S. Department of Labor and runs through September of 2016.
