From the President, Foundation Board Chairperson

President Dr. Bill Pink and Chairperson James Buzzita

GRCC is -- first and foremost -- the community’s college. We are here to serve the people of West Michigan. We proudly embrace this role.

Read through the pages of the 2018-2019 GRCC Foundation annual report, and you will find stories of many people this community college has touched in some way. Know there are thousands and thousands of others.

The truth is: There is no such thing as a typical GRCC student. They come to us with different ages, backgrounds and abilities. We meet people where they are in their lives and help them get to where they want to go.

Some of them are at the start of their educational journey. Others used their GRCC experience to launch a career or continue an educational pathway to a bachelor’s degree at a four-year university. Others connected with a workforce program, learning skills to advance in their careers or go for a new job.

But one thing that every one of them has in common is that they benefited from the work of the Grand Rapids Community College Foundation and the donors who support it.

Some of them needed help overcoming financial obstacles. You were there for them. This foundation, for the second year in a row, was able to offer more than $1 million in scholarships.

Others will benefit from improved facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. You were there for them, too. Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, formerly the Main Building, will soon be renovated to make it a 21st-century learning space. Projects in other buildings will ensure GRCC students have the resources to compete with anyone.

The GRCC Foundation moved forward with the public phase of “A Broader Vision” campaign to raise $15 million to support more scholarships and renovate facilities. The response from this community was phenomenal.

We humbly thank you for the generous support you have provided the GRCC Foundation and our community as a whole. You made a difference. We ask you to continue investing in our students and West Michigan, because as even far as we have come, there is still more to do.

Sincerely,
